Edward Snowden Exposes The Pitfalls Of White Privilege

I'm sitting here watching the Brian Williams interview with Edward Snowden and as Mr. Snowden calmly explained all of his access and privilege to highly secure information, how he traveled the world at the taxpayers expense living in resort cities such as Hawaii under assumed names I found myself going to the internet to look further into his background..

I was fascinated at how such a young man who was a high school dropout,  who couldn't make it past basic training in the military and who had attended community college briefly without earning a degree of any kind could find himself living the life of a spy earning six  figures.

Mr. Snowden is not a dumb man by any means, however, from reviewing his credentials there is no way in the world this guy could have gone to such great heights in such a short time with his background without some major white privilege and nepotism helping him out along the way.

Edward Snowden held no computer certifications of any kind. From what I've read he could not write code. He was not the computer 'genious' white folks have made him out to be to cover up the fact he came to his position without the credentials they would have required of a minority.

Now I find both Edward Snowden's father and grandfather were known at the FBI and I'm pretty sure someone pulled some strings to get him in that position.

I know black guys who hold advanced degrees in I.T. Networking and they aren't earning six figures flying across the world living in Hawaii under government assumed names.

Edward Snowden's story sickens me not for what he's done which is basically thumb his nose at those that afforded him a life of privilege because he was a white male with 'connections'; but because he shows me what I've known all along.

White males get drafted for the top jobs without the qualifications that so many minorities have to have to even be considered.

So many white guys who are afforded incredible opportunity because of the color of their skin simply are so 'unappreciative' of the life their white privilege has afforded them.

I often hear about rich white kids either killing their parents or sueing them. Even though they've been given the world.

Edward Snowden threw away such a privileged life. A high school drop out with no certifications or degrees behind his name, who from all indications made a run at community college but never finished and who couldn't even finish basic training was handed the most unbelievable position.

Shit he had to have known someone.

While working at Wingspan Portfolio Advisors I would see the casual nature of how the white guys would approach their jobs, openly breaking the rules and challenging management only to be offered promotions while the blacks had to work with our heads down meeting guidelines and often having to finish their work.

White privilege is a motherfucker I tell you.

The white guys who made at least some effort were quickly awarded with promotions while the black employees were told to 'be thankful' we had a job.

A lot of my white coworkers were so entitled and so privileged because of their skin color even after they recieved promotions and far higher pay than every minority in the building they would walk out and quit over some bullshit reason such as simply wanting to 'travel'.

I know people with doctoral degrees who can't get hired on at the state department and this kid, this high-school dropout lands a six figure gig traveling the world and working in places like Hawaii.

Nah... I don't feel sorry for the U.S.

Fuck the U.S.

Snowden has embarrassed the U.S. And the intelligence community. They know they gave this guy the world and he turned around and told them all to go and fuck themselves.

So now Brian Williams is closing out his interview saying a 'good number of Anericans say that can't go to sleep at night because of what Snowden has done' and I think 'I'm sleeping like a baby'.

I don't trust this government anymore than I trust the Syrians, the Russians, the Iranians or the North Koreans'.

As a matter of fact I think I may trust the U.S. Government even less.
